'Sam Routledge is a performer, puppeteer and creator of visual theatre. He has a BA in Communication (Theatre and Media) from Charles Sturt University and a Post graduate Diploma in Puppetry from the VCA. He has performed with Terrapin Puppet Theatre, Arena Theatre Company, Black Hole Theatre and LATT Children’s Theatre, Seoul.
As a creator of original performance, he co-directed Blood Policy’s new media/puppetry work ‘Operation’ as part of the 2006 Next Wave Festival and directed the installation performance ‘Please Hold’ for the 2008 Next Wave Festival. He also initiated and co-created the object theatre production Men Of Steel, which has toured extensively nationally as well as to the UK, Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. In 2008 he was funded by The Australia Council to undertake skills and arts development with Danish children’s theatre company Gruppe 38, performing in their production The Holy Night. In 2009 he was a recipient of an Aphids’ Choose Your Own Adventure Residency to develop miniature puppetry performance at The Australian Model Railway Association Clubhouse in Glen Iris.
He has been nominated for two green room awards in the New Form category, Best Ensemble of Performers for Men of Steel in 2006, and Best Performer for ‘Operation’ in 2007. Men Of Steel won The Festival Directors Award at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Sam is a also a member of My Darling Patricia having performed in their four works Kissing The Mirror, Politely Savage, Night Garden and Africa.' (Men of Steel website, 2013)
