Artist and book illustrator Sally Harrison is one of the Stolen Generations. She was taken from her mother in February 1950, and placed in Bomaderry Children's Home, where she remained until she was adopted by a white couple.
Harrison has been painting since she was ten years old, but did not take up dot painting until 1992, when she began exploring her Aboriginal heritage. In 1993, she travelled to the Pilbara region of Western Australia and painted with the Warba Mirawadji women's painting group from the Chedeetha Community at Roeburne.
Harrison says that 'as one of the stolen generation, art is my way of creating order out of chaos -- putting myself back together, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.' She is a cousin of Bill Hipkin (q.v.).
