BiographyHistory

J. S. Buckingham was an English author, traveller, journalist and the founder, in India in 1818, of the Calcutta Journal. His work was sometimes published in nineteenth century Australian newspapers including the Teetotaller, and General Newspaper and the Geelong Advertiser. Australian newspapers, including the Sydney Herald and the Sydney Gazette, also published articles about Buckingham.

Buckingham travelled widely but gives no indication in his autobiography that he ever visited Australia. (Autobiography of James Silk Buckingham (1855))
