Qualified as a lawyer, Virginia Ginnane worked in state and federal politics before training as a journalist in Melbourne then working in London from 1990-2000 as correspondent for a number of Time Warner publications including WHO Weekly, Instyle (US), People (US) and Life magazines and as a freelance journalist working for Reuters and contributing to The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday, Hello and a number of legal publications including Legal Business, The Lawyer and Legal Week. After her book Polly Borland: Australians was published by the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2000, Virginia Ginnane returned to Australia working as a commissioning editor of finance law publications for legal publisher LexisNexis and freelancing for Southern Highlands magazine Highlife and The Australian's Wish magazine. She co-authored Southern Highland Homes, a coffee table book published in 2003 by Canongate Partners.
