Alexander McLeod came to Australia in 1885, age eighteen, to work for his Uncle who owned Owen Springs Station. Later, McLeod managed Erina Station, then owned his own station, Arkeringa Station, until he retired in 1943. He died in the Alice Springs Hospital in 1946.
