BiographyHistory

'Ronnie Summers is a descendant of the Trawl-wool-way and Palawa people of North-East Tasmania...he grew up on Cape Baron Island, one of the largest islands in the Furneaux Group in eastern Bass Strait. Like many children of the Islanders, Summers started work at a young age and moved around the islands during mutton-birding season. Over the years he...has worked at meatworks, woolstores, pulp mills and on fishing boats.

Music has been Summers' driving force since he was a child. Throughout his musical career he has been passionate about sharing the traditions of the Cape Barren music he grew up with- a unique mix of Cajun, Blues, Country and Folk.

In recent years, through storytelling, music and traditional craft practices, Summers has worked in schools, passing on the cultural history of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people. He has...been nominated for Tasmanian Aboriginal of the Year.' Source: Tasmanian Songman: Ronnie (2009)
