Dudley Le Souef was director of the Melbourne Zoological Gardens, having been appointed, in 1874, aged 18 years, Assistant-Secretary to the Zoological and Acclimatization Society of Victoria which had established the Melbourne Zoological Gardens. He was educated at Crediton Grammar School, Devonshire, England. He and two of his brothers made an enormous contribution to the zoological collection in Melbourne. He died at Royal Park.
