Jim Moran's mother was Ethel Chapman. His father, Arthur Moran, was raised by his stepfather Bob Moran who belonged to the Danggadi people. Jim married a woman name Ruby Archibald in Kempsey and they reared 21 children, thirteen of whom were their own.
