Actor, television director, writer.

Alister Smart's career in television began as an actor in the 1960s, when he appeared in guest roles in classic drama series such as Homicide (1965-1971). His later roles included series such as Spyforce (1971), Barrier Reef (1972), Matlock Police (1971, 1973), Ryan (1973), Number 96 (1974, 1976), Division 4 (1969-1976), The Sullivans (1976), Glenview High (1977), Young Ramsay (1977), Skyways (1979), Special Squad (1985) and The Girl Who Came Late (1991).

During the same period Smart established an alternate career as a director, overseeing episodes for such series as The Godfathers (1971), Cop Shop (1977), Skyways (1979), A Country Practice (1982), Prisoner (1986), Sons and daughters (1982-97), Richmond Hill (1988), Neighbours (1991) and Blue Heelers (1994). He was also engaged as a producer/director for an episode of the series Our Man in the Company (1974).
