Laurence Boutcher Joseph Halloran was the eldest son of
Laurence Hynes Halloran. Along with his father, he served at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. He was at one point a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines. It seems likely that Halloran was in Australia at some point - the
New South Wales Government Gazette of 4 April 1845 states that uncollected mail for Captain L. B. Halloran (from March 1845) is being held at the Sydney General Post Office.
Halloran's
Rescued Fragments of Cabin Memorandums was published in 1826. It is described by a secondhand bookseller as comprising an account of Halloran's service in the Royal Marines while stationed in South America, particularly in Monte Video. Halloran's poetry (some of which appears in
Rescued Fragements) was published in Australian newspapers, including the
Sydney Monitor, in the late 1820s.
