A death notice in the same issue of the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser in which F. E .F.'s poem 'On the Death of My Infant' is first published announces the death '[a]t Liverpool, on the 2nd instant [2 December 1838], of influenza, Jane Henrietta, the infant daughter of Mr. F. E. Forbes.' F. E. F. may be F. E. Forbes, the father of the child in this notice. There was an epidemic of influenza in Sydney in November and December 1838.
