Novelist and short-story writer.
Originally raised in Victoria, Parrett moved to Tasmania when she was eight, where she spent the next seven years in Hobart. At fifteen, she moved to the remote south coast of the island, which influenced her first novel.
Parrett was awarded a place in the 2008 Hachette Livre Manuscript Development program and a 2009 mentorship from the Australian Society of Authors. Her first novel, Past the Shallows, was published in 2011, and won the Australian Book Industry Award (ABIA) for newcomer of the year and the Nita May Dobbie Award, and was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin, the News South Wales Premier's Literary Award for new writing, and the Melbourne Prize for best writing, and longlisted for the IMPAC Dublin Award.
In 2012 to 2013, Parrett held the Antarctic Arts Fellowship, which resulted in a series of short works in publications such as the Griffith Review, as well as influencing her second novel.
Parrett followed her debut novel with When the Night Comes (2014), which was shortlisted for the Indie Award, the ALS Gold Medal, and the ABIA for literary fiction book of the year, and longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award. The novel There Was Still Love followed in 2019.
