BiographyHistory

Barbara Browne was the second of ten children born to Elsie Hawkins (nee Black) who was a drover's labourer. Barbara Browne was denied a nursing traineeship by all the local hospitals and took up the chance to attempt entry in Sydney. Barbara never forgot her dream of being a nurse and was finally accepted in 1968 when she applied at Royal South Sydney Hospital. Her daughter Roslyn Lockhart is also a nurse.
