Julia Gillard graduated from the University of Melbourne with a BA, LLB. She worked as a solicitor from 1987 to 1995 and was Chief of Staff to the the Hon. John Brumby (then Victorian Opposition Leader) from 1995 to 1998. Gillard was elected to the federal House of Representatives for the seat of Lalor, Victoria in 1998. She became Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Minister for Education and Minister for Social Inclusion from December 2007.
Gillard was elected Deputy Leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) in 2006 and became Deputy Prime Minister in 2007. On 24 June 2010, she was elected unopposed as leader of the ALP and became Prime Minister of Australia. Sworn in on 24 June 2010, she served as Prime Minister until June 2013. In 2014, she was appointed chair of the Global Partnership for Education.
