BiographyHistory

Lydia Wevers was born in the Netherlands and came to New Zealand at the age of three in 1953.

Professor Wevers was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University, Washington DC, in the second half of 2010. From 2011, she was the Director of the Stout Research Centre at Victoria University of Wellington. She was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2006.

In addition to works listed on AustLit, her books include Tabasco Sauce and Ice Cream: Stories by New Zealanders (1990), Travelling New Zealand: An Oxford Anthology (2000), Country of Writing: Travel Writing About New Zealand 1809-1900 (2002), and On Reading (2004).
