Tommy Ellrott Strueber was living with his family in the Yaamba area, Queensland, when their camp was raided by troopers and native police 'who killed everyone' except Streuber and his little sister. He became a skilled horseman and 'was the first Aboriginal jockey to ride in a race at Rockhampton's Callaghan Park Racecourse.'
