Artist, activist and humanist Vincent Serico was 'born in Waka Waka/Kabi Kabi country (Canarvon Gorge region, Queensland). He was a member of the Stolen Generations' having been removed from his family by white administrators at four years of age. Serico grew up at Cherbourg Aboriginal Reserve in Queensland. He 'returned to his Country in his early forties and began painting his stories and those that had been passed on to him about his Country'. Although Serico's paintings are contemporay in appearance they are also a mode of storytelling with deep traditional roots in sandpainting. Source : Australian Aboriginal Studies (2008).
