BiographyHistory

Arthur Exley was an education leader of his time. He arrived in Queensland in 1886 as part of a State recruitment scheme for teachers. In 1910, he was one of five people appointed to complete a set of School Readers for the Queensland Department of Education. He was a prolific writer of stories and poems for the Queensland School Paper under the pseudonym of AXEL, and became Assistant to the Editor from 1 July 1910.

Exley was integral to the lobbying of parliament for a superannuation scheme for teachers and public servants which led to the enactment of the Public Service Superannuation Bill in 1913.
