BiographyHistory

Murphy Japanangka began working when he was a child on Elkedra Station in the Northern Territory and worked for many decades without receiving proper wages. He was part of a group that walked off Kurundi station in 1977 to establish Ngurrutiji Rockhole. After considerable legal battles, the Warumungu landclaim was won in 1992. Japanangka has served as traditional landowner for McLaren Creek and as a delegate to the Central Land Council.
