Kirsty Eagar lived in various parts of Queensland as a child, including time on a cattle station in central Queensland. She gained a degree in economics from The University of Queensland before joining the Reserve Bank in Sydney. While living in Sydney, Eagar learned to surf and continued to develop her skill at the sport while on secondment with the bank in England. (Eagar surfed regularly in Cornwall.)
Returning to Australia, Eagar spent some time travelling around Australia and surfing. She later settled in Sydney where she left her financial career and focused on writing.
