Doug Milera experienced the loss of his mother and older brother early in life and spent many of his formative years escaping from reformatories and travelling between the different houses of relations in search of a stable environment. Milera was drawn into a cycle of alcoholism and incarceration until he made a decision which led him to a sobriety program that broke the cycle. Doug Milera had three brothers Arthur, Derek, Russell and a sister Rosalind.
