Banduk Mamburra Wananamba Marika was a Rirratjingu Elder, artist, teacher, film maker, community worker and campaigner for Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights at Yirrkala in the Northern Territory.
Her father was Mawalan Marika, who was a highly respected Elder and artist of the Dhuwa people of Arnhem Land. Banduk Marika showcased Aboriginal art and culture internationally and exhibited her work in America, Indie, Egypt, Noumea and Singapore.
Banduk Marika was awarded the Australia Council Red Ochre Award in 2001 for her lifetime of contributions to the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts nationally and internationally. She was the sister of Wandjuk Marika and Dhuwarrwarr Marika.
