Lucy was raised by a policeman known as Mr. McGuiness who raised her until her teenage years. He intended on moving back to England and taking Lucy with him until Lucy's uncle Jimmy Dingo, Owen Dingo's father, objected to his decision. Leaving Wiluna with her Uncle, Lucy and Jimmy Dingo walked to Mt. Narrier Station where she recovered from her journey and began work sheep mustering, cooking and as a kitchen hand. Lucy never received any payment for her work other than some food and clothing and eventually ran away to escape the working conditions she was coerced into. At fifteen, Lucy married her promised husband and had children. She also raised the child of a pastoralist who identified closer with Lucy than his natural parents. She would take him hunting with her and he built her a house when he was older. After many years, one day Lucy surprised her employers when she demanded monetary payment for her hard work and from then began to receive money.
