BiographyHistory

Clara Jackamarra was born Lucille Roe, the daughter of George Harriot Roe and Mary Budjinka. Her mother Mary had Asian and Aboriginal ancestry. Clara was raised on Changergoodering or Thangoo Station by both of her parents until she was nine years old. Clara had two sisters, the eldest sister was Maude and her younger sister was Rose. They also had a younger brother named Augustine Patrick or Paddy. Clara was taken to Beagle Bay Mission in 1909 and never saw her father again. Her brother and sister came to the mission in 1912. It was not until 1920 that Clara would see her mother Mary again. Her brother and sisters recall the sadness of their father in letting them go to the mission.
