BiographyHistory

Laklak Marika is a storyteller, artist and member of the Rirratjingu Clan within the Yolngu Nation and elder for Yalangbara, Yirrkala and Dhambaliya. Laklak is the daughter of Mawalan Marika. Leaving school in 1960, Laklak worked until 1966 as a housekeeper for missionaries. Mawalan Marika passed on in 1968 and a memorial film was made by a man named Ian Dunlop to celebrate Mawalan's life.
