BiographyHistory

Iris Norton was a journalist. She began her career working in radio in the late 1920s as a movie reviewer for Sydney radio station 2BL. Then in 1930-32 she wrote a regular movie column for the Sydney Mail. During World War II, she worked as a war correspondent for tabloid publisher Associated Newspapers, travelling throughout Australia and also to Ceylon, Singapore and Indonesia. She was perhaps best known for her long-running humorous column which she wrote for the magazine Woman (later Woman's Day), under the name 'Margot Parker'. She married twice, first to Harry Dexter, and later to Smith's Weekly and Bulletin cartoonist George Aria ('Aub'). Her personal papers are held at the State Library of New South Wales.
