BiographyHistory

Val Power is an Yarilde Elder who belongs to the area between Murray Bridge and the Narrung Ferry. Power is the great granddaughter of Queen Louisa Kontinyerii (Karpany). Her mother's grandmother, Elsa Wilkins, was of Kaurna Ngarrindjeri/Yarilde heritage. Her father was Donald James Karpany, Snr. Her great grandfather, Sewsty, was an interpreter for George Taplin and her great grandmother was an interpreter for Constable George Ezekiel. Power's family left Point McLeay in 1946 and lived in the Riverland and in Adelaide.
