Known as the 'Grandfather of Indigenous Radio in the Kimberley' Koomanjay was a stockman in his youth and later a foundation broadcaster at Fitzroy Crossing community radio station 'Wangki Yupurnanupurru'. He began his career in radio broadcasting when he was near to retirement age.
On the day of his funeral the station played a special program of his favourite songs as well as a work composed especially for him which was performed at his funeral. Many young people were inspired by him and encouraged into the world of broadcasting.
