Established by Jan Sharp in the early-mid 1980s, one of Kookaburra Productions earliest productions was a drink driving education project targeting high school students. The company later began producing feature films, including The Umbrella Woman (1986), Echoes of Paradise (1986), Shadows of the Peacock (1987) and Wide Sargasso Sea (1993).
