Lorna Lippmann was a member of the Aborigines Advancement League in Melbourne and was influenced by Doug Nicholls. In 1964, Lippmann became the convenor for the Legislative Reform Committee of the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. Campaigning against discriminatory clauses in state and federal laws, Lippmann also pressured politicians to amend the laws. Lippmann was actively involved in the 1967 referendum. Among her publications are Words or Blows: Racial Attitudes in Australia (1973) and Generations of Resistance: Mabo and Justice.
