BiographyHistory

Rees emigrated from England to Melbourne in 1851, where he studied law at the University of Melbourne. He then trained as a Congregational minister and was ordained in 1861, but returned to law and was admitted to the Bar in 1865. In 1866 he moved to New Zealand where he became interested in politics and was a supporter of Governor Grey, who features in an essay appended to his novel and in a hagiography written with his daughter Rose Mary. Rees also had a brief career as a first-class cricketer.
