BiographyHistory

Kampawerr Patricia Kauri is a woman from the Djamindjung Rak Malgin people. She was born and grew up on the Mardanungamme estate in the Northern Territory. Around 1932, Kampawerr Patricia Kauri's family moved to Auvergne Station after her father and uncles had been taken away by the police. In 1942, her relatives were released from jail when the Japanese bombed of Darwin and Kampawerr Patricia Kauri along with other family members walked to Port Keats Mission. As a result, she was put into the mission dormitory there where she felt homesick and lonely. Kampawerr Patricia Kauri has worked with the Wadeye Aboriginal Languages Centre telling stories about her country and the dreamings.
