BiographyHistory

Frank Samuel Williamson was a secondary school teacher at Newington College, New South Wales and Wesley College in Victoria. He subsequently worked as a relieving teacher for the Victorian Education Department until his retirement. In 1916, Williamson was teaching at Lavers Hill in Victoria. In 1929, he was head teacher at the Bunga Creek School, Victoria. E. Morris Miller and Frederick Macartney's Australian Literature: A Bibliography to 1938: Extended to 1950 (1956): 495 comments: 'His poetry at its best consists of carefully finished lyrics such as 'Dirge' and 'She Comes as Comes the Summer Night', and, in a more animated manner, 'The Magpie's Song', which mingles the bushland associations of the bird and suggestions of its call with the classical allusions he occasionally uses to illustrate his ideas.'
