She cleans the burrow, takes charge of the naughty triplets and cooks bardie roots for the family. When Mr. Bandicoot fails to come home after fossil-hunting, and Mrs. Bandicoot recklessly heads off in the daytime to find him, Winnie and the triplets, Miranda, Maud, and Mimosa have to go searching for both lost parents. They get help from the other Australian animals and Winnie meets a 'gentlemanly' wombat, Wally. This tale of adventure and romance ends with Winnie and Wally marrying, setting up a home of their own, and employing a 'kangeroo-rat' [sic] to help with the 'rough'.
