FitzHenry joined The Bulletin in 1917 working as secretary under the editorships of S. H. Prior, J. E. Webb and David Adams. In 1956 FitzHenry received a Literary Fund Grant enabling him to write his literary reminiscences. During the course of his career, FitzHenry was Secretary of the The Bulletin Novel Competition (1928-1929), Secretary of the S. H. Prior Memorial Prize, Secretary of the Fellowship and of Australian Writers, and Founding Editor of The Australian Authors and Artists Handbook beginning as The Australian and New Zealand Writers' and Artists' Year Book: A Directory for Writers, Artists and Photographers (1928-).
FitzHenry died in The Bulletin office where he had worked for over 40 years.
