1 The Lyrebird's Voice Jayde Kirchert , Peter Rutherford (composer), 2025 single work musical theatre opera

'Have you ever heard a lyrebird’s call? You may have, but mistaken it for something else – these ornate birds are expert copycats, mimicking all sorts from kookaburras to camera shutters.

'In this family-friendly opera, one trickster lyrebird goes a step too far and gets in trouble with their friends in the flock. The other birds banish the lyrebird and curse them: never again will the lyrebird be able to use their own voice. From now on, it’s mimicry only.

'Alone in the bush, the lyrebird meets a quirky assortment of Australian animals, where they discover the power of being different. With performances in the outer suburban ring of Melbourne, audiences will meet beetles, a wombat, a kangaroo, a ringtail possum, a jittery emu, all manner of native birds, and a cunning cat.'

1 2 LOVEBites James Millar , Peter Rutherford (composer), 2008 single work musical theatre humour

'An absent minded young ladyleaves behind more than she intended after a one night stand. A pair of Eric Satie fanatics discover each other in an elevator. An A-List celebrity joins the Mile High Club with a stewardess. A couple of strangers are dumped together by the same wave. A worry wart panics about the romantic unknown as she dangles precariously from a rock face. a Book Group with only two members develops into something much greater than an innocent discussion about the latest Helen Garner novel and a florist....is sent flowers.

'"LOVEBites" is a series of short stories about falling in love...and what happens after the confetti settles. Catching one half of each couple in the instant that love strikesand then hearing from the other half about how it ended up. "LOVEBites" is a unique, hilarious and moving song cycle that gives only the beginning and end of each relationship from the separate perspective of the two individuals who share it.'
