Khalid al-Hilli worked for several Iraqi newspapers and magazines, publishing poetry and articles from the early 1960s until 1979, when he left Iraq. Between 1979 and 1988 he worked as a correspondent for the Qatari Ar-Raya newspaper, first in the United Arab Emirates and later in Morocco. In 1989 he moved to Australia, becoming a correspondent for the Saudi newspaper Al-Yaum.

Khalid al-Hilli has had two collections of his poetry published: Two Colourless Eyes (1964) and Cloudy Cities (1988). Some of the poems in the latter collection have appeared in translation into English in Kalimat. [Source: Saloni M]
