Harry Nicolaides is a teacher and a writer of fiction and journalism. His articles have appeared in the Australian, Eureka Street,
New Statesman and Neos Kosmos (English edition). He has lived in Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
In 2008 Nicolaides was arrested in Thailand on the charge of lese majeste - defaming, insulting or threatening the Thai royal family. The charge arose from a paragraph in his novel Verisimilitude. On 19 January 2009, Nicolaides was convicted of the charge and sentenced to three years in jail. He received a Royal Pardon from the King of Thailand on 20 February 2009 and returned to Australia the following day.
