John King was born on Lake Condah Mission and remained there until he was seven. King was appointed Ranger when the mission was handed back to Aboriginal people but there was a lot of opposition in the white community and King's house was burned down. In 1985 King and his wife Bernadean became the first couple to be married at Lake Condah Mission for thirty-two years.
