BiographyHistory

Gormanston was the 14th Viscount, son of Edward Anthony John Preston (13th Viscount) and his wife Lucretia, nee Jerningham. He served as a lieutenant in the Indian Mutiny compaigns (1857-58) and later as chamberlain to the lord lieutenant of Ireland. He then served as Governor of the Leeward Islands (1885-87) and British Guiana (1888-93) before serving as Governor of Tasmania from 8 August 1893 to August 1900.
