A recipient of Competitive Project Funding from the Australia-China Council, Associate Professor Duan Manfu travelled to Perth, Western Australia, in 2007 to research a course on Australian literature to be taught to postgraduate students at the University of Inner Mongolia, China. The paper includes his reactions to the places and people he saw and met in Western Australia and the influence of these observations on his understanding of Australian literature.
