BiographyHistory

One of the first bushrangers, and often cited as one of the most vicious, Lemon escaped from custody in 1806 and spent the next two years at large. Roaming Tasmania's Southern Midlands with various companions, Lemon murdered at least four men, leading authorities to post a fifty pound bounty for his capture. In February 1808 he was shot by an ex-convict, Michael Mansfield, who then proceeded to Hobart to claim his reward, carrying Lemon's head in a bag as proof.
