Anna Jacobs grew up in Lancashire and migrated to Australia in 1973. She has B.A. (Hons.), a Graduate Diploma in Education and an M.B.A. and before becoming a full-time writer, had been a human resources officer, a teacher and a lecturer in adult technical college. Jacobs writes under a number of pen-names, but mainly now as 'Anna Jacobs', producing historical sagas which use both her native and her adopted country as settings. She also writes occasional family relationships novels and historical romances under that name for another publisher.
Several of her 'Anna Jacobs' books have hit the Top 50 Fiction Bestsellers in the UK. As 'Shannah Jay' she wrote five science fiction novels in the 1990s. Her novel Sword of Azaray (which she wrote as Shannah Jay), a classic fantasy tale for young adults, was published electronically by New Concepts Publishing, as was Worlds Beyond, an e-book short-story collection that was published in 1999 but is no longer available in electronic form. Jacobs has written and given many talks and seminars on the subject of writing, and has written French textbooks as Anne Jacobs.
Between July 2007 and June 2008 Jacobs was the 8th most borrowed author of adult fiction in public libraries in the United Kingdom.
