BiographyHistory

Maureen Cashman grew up in Sydney and was educated at St Martha's Primary School, Strathfield, and Bethlehem College, Ashfield. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a BA (Hons) and continued her studies in Education at Sydney Teachers' College and the University of Canberra.

Cashman taught in New South Wales, the ACT, the Northern Territory and in the United Kingdom before joining the Commonwealth Public Service where she worked in education policy.

Cashman left full-time paid employment in 2000 to devote more time to writing. She has received a mentorship funded by the ACT Arts Council. Cashman's travel memoir, Charlie and Me in Val-Paradis, is based on the time she spent living in France in 2003-2004.
