BiographyHistory

This agent was probably 'Mrs. Henry Day, of Rockton, Brisbane', the dedicatee of Harriet Patchett Martin's 1890 anthology, Under the Gum Tree. Further research suggests that this might have been Margaret Ellen Day (nee Buttanshaw), step-daughter of one time Queensland Collector of Customs, William Thornton, and wife of William Henry Day, a 19th century Queensland police magistrate (she died at Genoa, Italy, on 25 July, 1913, aged 81).
