Producer/writer; executive producer and writer on The Mavis Bramston Show (1964-1965).
Michael Plant was a precocious talent, who began writing for radio when he was 15. (He had, aged 15, appeared in the ABC Weekly as a 'boy producer', with fellow Scots College student David Rofe, who was 14.) By the late 1940s, he was working regularly, and was hired by Grace Gibson as a radio script-writer in 1949, aged 19. He first left Australia for London in 1951, and thereafter regularly disappeared overseas for work: unlike many expatriate Australian writers of the period, he regularly returned to Australia, where he worked on programs such as Whiplash.
Plant was the first executive producer on The Mavis Bramston Show, a position he held when he died, aged 35, of what was said to be an accidental drug overdose.
