Eileen Peters is the fourth eldest of thirteen siblings. Her parents were George and Lexie Murray and her grandparents were Phoebe and Tom Picton. Peters and her family were made to move from the Angledool mission to Collarenebri. Peters finished school when she turned fourteen and was apprenticed to work on a number of different stations by the mission manager. She worked at Kookaburra Station at Goodooga and then out at Bourke for four years. Peters married Cecil Peters in 1945 and they had six children. In 1960 the family moved from the old camp at Collarenebri to Walgett.
