BiographyHistory

Doreen Hynch was born in Collarenebri Hospital to Edith Hardy and Edward Weatherall. Her brother is Aubrey Weatherall and her sister, Rose Flick, was the first school teacher the Aboriginal children had on the reserve, teaching children under the trees, before Aboriginal children were allowed to attend the white school in 1947.

Hynch was apprenticed out as a domestic at Collymongle Station at the age of thirteen. After a few years, Hynch began work at Collarenebri Hospital. After having a family, Hynch worked as an Aboriginal Health Worker before being promoted to Aboriginal Health Education Officer until she retired in 1994.
