Margaret Fulton was born in Nairn, Scotland on October 6, 1924, the youngest of six children. When she was three, the family moved to the New South Wales town of Glen Innes where her father worked as a tailor. Margaret Fulton was the first Australian celebrity cookery writer. She is credited with being one of the first people to bring international cuisine to the Australian table. Fulton was best-known for The Margaret Fulton Cookbook published in 1968, and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1983. She wrote more than 20 books and was also food editor for Woman's Day magazine, one of the first in the industry to be a cook and a journalist at the same time. She was also the first person to teach visually impaired people how to cook. Fulton was added to the list of 100 Australian Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia.
