BiographyHistory

Nikos Soulakis was born in Thessaloniki (Salonica), where he lived during his childhood and his adolesence. During this period he was influenced by the Byzantine art and later by Greek classic art. He arrived in Australia in 1966, out of a need to travel and learn about foreign countries. During the period 1971-1974 he studied painting at the Art Training Institute of Melbourne. Since then he has exhibited solo and collectively. As an artist he has worked for the theatre and he has created illustrations for book covers etc. In 1966 he was awarded the 'Hellenic' award, for his contribution to the Arts. Soulakis lives in Melbourne.
